Uncategorized Kenya: First Phase of KBL Logo Design Competition Ends, Winner to Receive Sh1 Million – AllAfrica.com
Nairobi — The first round of the Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) logo competition ended on Monday, with the winner set to be awarded Sh.1 million.
The competition dubbed “Still Got Skillz?” is divided into two phases (entry and hackathon), and would see young creative artists between the ages of 21 and 25 have an opportunity to design the brewery’s logo, while receiving mentorship from judges.
According to East African Breweries Group Corporate Relations Director, Eric Kiniti, the brewery received submissions from 409 artists, but only 20 would proceed to the hackathon round where the artists would make a presentation on the inspiration behind their designs.
“The designers behind the 20 best submissions will be individually contacted for the hackathon. At the hackathon, the 20 artists will get guidance from the judges as they improve their submissions to the best possible design,” Kiniti said.
The panel of judges is said to comprise of advertising experts, art, copy and creative directors.
Kiniti noted that the judges would select the designs through a fair process where they would be judged on their adaptability as a logo and whether they “stood out as a complete and outstanding work” that could be converted into a brand identity.
He further noted that the competition was a great opportunity for upcoming young artists to set their foot into the industry, citing that through the guidance of the various judges, they could improve and develop their creativity skills.
“We are really happy with the response to this competition and this goes to show the confidence the youth have in our ability to enable them hone their design skills and progress in their careers in the creative industry,” Kiniti added.
The final winners of the competition would be announced by the judges at a later date with the runners up receiving Sh.500, 000 as prize money and the third place receiving Sh.250, 000.
